• Auto-Biography

  • Midweek in Cairo, Egypt, several autumns (Octobers?) ago, my mother’s pregnancy journey was over. And there I was; born only twenty minutes after she got into the hospital. I guess I was really eager to get into the world in my own way.

Apparently I was a curious baby; hardly slept during the day but slept well at night; eating little and enjoying the presences of people and light and toys all around. As I read this to myself, I feel that not much has changed since then!!!!!

The most remarkable memory since then has been learning to read to myself. I was so anxious to read my own magazines and books that it only took me a month of classes at school to actually start working hard on my own to read the famous Mickey Mouse magazine – in Arabic of course. The discovery of the pleasures of reading has left me for life hooked up on the marvelous world of letters; learning to fantasize with it many long nights while I stayed awake in bed.
